Hard End
Hard End is on Mount Road, overlooking Butterley Reservoir on the south-eastern lower slopes of Pule Hill. The settlement is near to Bank Bottom Mills, which is where many of the inhabitants must have worked.1881 Census

There was a high number of incomers living in Hard End in 1881. Many of these families seemed to have moved several times within Yorkshire (West Riding), and their relatively young average age would suggest that these were families following work, of which there was plenty in Marsden.
