William Hampson, professional cricketer, born Marsden 1 Aug 1857. Died Marsden 6 Feb 1912. He played for Bury (1880), Wimbledon (1881), Middlesborough (1882), Oldham (1883), Hodgson & Simpson (1884), Elland, Lascelles Hall, Huddersfield United, Cliffe End, Burnley, Bingley (1892), Liverpool (1894), Marsden (1895 - amateur) He worked as a worsted weaver, and in 1881 he was lodging in Headingley-cum-Burley.

Marsden Cricket Club was founded in 1865, and the ground was on Fall Lane (now a football pitch).
