Taylor Family in Marsden

Postby RobertT » Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:35 am

My g/g/g grandfather Enoch Taylor was a blacksmith in Marsden. Born in 1800. His son, my namesake, Robert Taylor, my g/g/grandfather owned an Iron Works in Marsden," Robert Taylor & Sons." I have a dated picture which appears to include a rooftop glimpse of the Iron Works. Robert and his family lived in a nearby building Readcarr (sp?). One of Robert's , sons, William Robert Taylor, my g/grandfather , b. 1862 came to the US (Bristol, Pennsylvania). He married an American, Carrie Head. William and Carrie relocated to Norristown, Pennsylvania, 15 miles from Philadelphia. He owned Woodstock Mills in Norristown. They had one daughter, Florence Kenworthy Taylor, my grandmother. She and her husband, Charles Montague had one son, my father, Robert Taylor Montague, b.1917, died 1988. I am Robert Taylor Montague Jr b. 1943 and my son is Robert Taylor Montague III. I am particularly interested if there are any other photos of the Robert Taylor & Sons Iron Works building when it existed as such or any later information on it and Readcarr. Thank you for any assistance and I am in the early stages of planning a trip to Marsden with my young adult children in the near future

Robert
There's mention of Enoch Taylor on the Luddites page of the Website - www.marsdenhistory.co.uk/people/luddites.html

and some information about the foundry here - www.marsdenhistory.co.uk/work/foundry.html

There are also a few photographs of Ready Carr Mill - before and during demolition on the Marsden Photographic Archive - see www.marsdenhistory.co.uk/photoarchive.html

There are a couple of new pictures of the foundry - a letter-head with a rather fanciful drawing of the site, and a picture of boiler-makers making a boiler - in the Marsden Then and Now - A Photographic Journey book we have recently published and which you can order through our website - email us for a postage quote for the book to the US. Or you might want to wait to purchase till you visit Marsden - the book is available from the Information Point in Marsden (not open Sun, Mon, Tues am however).

All the best,

Robert Taylor Iron Founder family

Postby Steve_Whitwam » Fri May 28, 2010 5:15 pm

Robert,

I have been tracing this family for many years, a friend of mine was the gt grandson of George Washington Taylor, if I can help with anything please contact me at

steve@whitwam.freeserve.co.uk.

I have further details about George Taylor 1825-1866 and his five children, the only one I didn't have any information on was your gt grandfather William Robert (named after both of his grandfathers) I was told he emmigrated to Canada, however you have confirmed that it was ths states that where he went to live.

Regards
