The Marsden History Group

The Marsden History Group is a not-for-profit association of people who co-operate in order to research, record and promote all aspects of the history of the Marsden area. No individual member may benefit personally in either cash or kind. The group may employ outside professional help as necessary, for example fees to a course tutor etc.

It is open to everyone who wishes to contribute to the above or to gain information for their personal interest. Contacts are made through The Marsden Information Point, the village newsletter and notice board.

Aims

  • To pursue original research which is to be made available to all.
  • To share information amongst the members of the group so as to add to the body of knowledge.
  • To put on courses which will provide members and the general public with research tools and to provide professional guidance to further individual and group research.
  • To gather oral histories.
  • To mount exhibitions of an historical nature.
  • To create and continue contributing to the internet website: www.marsdenhistory.co.uk
  • To publish booklets, leaflets etc.
  • To act as a resource for material and information for schools, libraries, mass media, museums etc.
  • To extend any of these activities as opportunities arise.

Management

The group has three officers:- a rotating chairperson, a secretary and a treasurer.

At each meeting the chair is taken by the person who has convened the meeting. Any member of the group may perform this function. Meetings normally take place once a month.

The secretary and treasurer are appointed by the group as a whole and are accountable to the group.

Receipts and expenditure

The treasurer shall receive all donations, contributions, bequests and grants. All income from whatever source shall be paid into the Marsden History Group bank account.

Monthly bank statements are available for inspection by any member of the group.

Cheques issued in payment for expenditure on activities of the group must be signed by two people, normally the secretary and the treasurer.

Decisions as to future expenditure that the group wishes to incur can only be taken after a majority vote is achieved at a meeting of not less than ten members.

The accounts will be approved annually by an independent person.
